The proven impact of financial media in the economy

In a world of fake news and the fast-paced social media, quality journalism should be protected and supported. We never doubted it, but media have a massive influence on the real world economy including the stock market.

A new research by the University of Luxembourg confirms the influence of media in the financial market. The language used in articles can shift an investors' opinion about the economy and their investment decisions.

80 people with a background in economics were presented with articles about specific stocks. While the facts of the articles stayed the same, the language in the articles was either positive or negative. When asked about evaluating the performance of the stocks, participants were more likely to have a positive opinion after reading the positive news story.
