Recently, the French financial market regulator AMF was in the news about a stricter regulation of advertising high-risk financial products. But Les Echos reports that their fines became less harsh last year.

In 2015, the AMF fined financial advertisers €21 million. This dropped to €10 million in 2016. The chairman of the AMF points out that the lower amount of penalties doesn't mean that the regulator became less strict. Their sanction is just more considerable.

In 2015, 14,424 complaints were handled. 75% came from private investors and 82% of the complaints were for promoting foreign exchange market or binary options investment.
